About the Plays:In Bed with Mr. Devil is a lengthy discourse between the author and an imagined devil. It is an argument between internal and external conflicts that are spread within the spectrum of duality of human nature. It queries the eternal struggle between good and less good, between good and evil, and between the ideal, the reality, and the truth. It pries into the secret thoughts between the secular and non-secular battles justling to erode each other in the chores of daily activities, daily living, and daily survival. It pokes at the myths, tenets, and beliefs that sustain religions, moderate the meanings of morality, and the concept of God and evil. It dabbles at existentialist’s perspectives on the relationship between humans and fellow human beings, between humans and the devil within and without, between humans and God. It explores the man-made divine rules, laws, and customs that shape human conduct and conditions, and that determines not only his trajectories in life but his sojourn and abode after life.Anonymousis a fictitious creative piece inspired by the incidence of September 5th when a seditious Op Ed by a supposedly anonymous "senior official in the Trump administration" was released through the New York Times. The use of the indefinite pronoun “an” is deliberate and a creative liberty to keep the anonymous truly anonymous. The diction of the play is deliberately tailored towards this ‘anonymousness’. Therefore, there are several connotative usages, symbolic jargon, ambiguous dialogue, and obscuring inferable.SSSHHHHHHHHHHHH!is originally titled “Shut Up,” but it betrays me just like some crazy plays that betray the pen of playwrights. It veers into its own realm without my consent. Like a stray dog that refuses to follow the instructions of its owner, this play changes course and gives itself its own name. It sets its own dreams, aspirations, and destiny. So, I expect it to be banned! The bastard must be banned! Yes, to be banned not only for betraying my trust or disobeying my muse but for the revolutionary effects that it sets its course to elicit. Definitely, its plan is to deliberately provoke thoughts and discourses on freedom, humanity, cancel culture, and question existence and its essences. It also has as its target a tricky plan to draw its audience into the fray of its conflicts. I hope they stay unscathed, unperturbed, and unyielding to its lures. The Kneeling Bus is a short play that explores the shocks that people experience when they leave their home countries to live abroad. Two characters, an African and a Cypriot, share an apartment with a Japanese American. How will they navigate the challenges of cultural curiosity, different worldviews, and unfamiliar terrains? The culture shock takes the two characters through four different phases: honeymoon, frustration, adjustment, and acceptance. The plays in this collection are engaging, thought-provoking, instructive, didactic, thrilling, and entertaining.
